Retirement
Living
The
Altenheim Community
has
a long tradition of providing older adults with lifestyle options
that offer freedom, security, and opportunities to enjoy the many
pleasures of life. The Altenheim was organized on April 12, 1910,
by two local churches who purchased a twelve bedroom Victorian mansion
in the heart of Indianapolis and modified it for community living
in a home-like setting.
Adding
Life to Years Today
After several renovations and expansions
of the original building, a thirty-two acre site was purchased on
the south side of Indianapolis and dedicated in 1975. The new Altenheim
is a short drive from downtown, St. Francis Hospital, the University
of Indianapolis, and one of the city's largest shopping malls. The
campus underwent an expansive renovation in 1996.
Lifestyle
Options
Responsive to the physical,
social, emotional, and spiritual needs of the older adult, The Altenheim
offers individuals the opportunity and freedom to achieve their
highest level of independence. A full range of lifestyle options
are available from retirement and Assisted Living apartments to
Intermediate and Skilled nursing care. This continuum of care provides
residents the opportunity to have their needs met if their health
should change.
Comfort
Tradition
Much like the traditional
American quilt, The Altenheim Community has provided home-like comfort
to families for generations. A wide variety of apartment floor plans
and living accommodations afford residents their privacy and a place
to retreat. Planned social activities, transportation to community
events, gathering places throughout, and a garden walk offer residents
places and opportunities for renewal and recreation. As each
square contributes to the pattern of the quilt, each resident brings
a new dimension to the fabric of life at The Altenheim.
